This can be obtained by sending a copy of your current hang gliding or Paragliding licence, along with a fee of R300,00 to the SAHPA offices at PO Box 1993, Halfway House, 1685 prior to your arrival in South Africa. You can download the Visitors form here. You will be issued with a temporary licence, valid for 3 (three) months, that provides you with
  • a third party public liability insurance cover of R300 000,00 for your and our protection
  • a CASEVAC insurance to cover the costs to get you into a hospital in case of an accident
  • A radio licence for 2m band transceivers on the FM frequency 141.600 and 141.625.
Remember that flying sites are often on private land and your good behavior will ensure that the site remains available for all pilots.

Please get in touch with the local club or paragliding school for details on the site regulations. Restricted air space should on no account be violated. To fly cross country and attempt world records, please ensure that you have the correct up-to-date aeronautical maps showing the restricted or controlled air space. Please contact FlyKuruman or E-Mail for any information with regard to flying in Kuruman area. To fly in Kuruman area the daily fee charged is R30. A season ticket costs R200.

More than 50% of the Paragliding world records have been set in South Africa, winching from the little Northern Cape town of Kuruman in the flatlands of the Karoo. There are several tour operators who organize winching and general flying trips around the Country. There are many good sites with large open areas to fly in, and some of the best flying weather in the world.

SAHPA has a policy of allocating at least 15% of all National and Provincial Championship places to ranked foreign Pilots and we welcome your participation. Check the Competition Calendar for dates.
