Flying Sites

Overview

We try to limit our options to the top five listed above as other Sites are used as and when the weather dictates. It is important that everyone who wants to tandem paraglide understand that we reserve the right to decide where it is best to fly on any given day and time.

We exercise this right to ensure that you are given the best value for money and that your safety is never compromised. You will have a truly wonderful experience if you let us do what we do best because we know the weather in and around Cape Town.

Lion's Head

Lions Head is because of the absolute beauty of this location and its ease of access, the most popular flying site and is used throughout our summer flying season. Flying from here requires a 15 to 30 minute walk to one of our two launch sites, so be prepared and bring lots of fluid with you. The site requires a South to South West wind but in summer we are able to fly in the lee with the South Easter being blocked by Table Mountain. Flight time form this location can range from 10 minutes to 30 minutes depending on the conditions on the day.

We have no control of the duration for the flight and it is completely weather dependant, therefore the price of the flight is not dependent on the flight duration. We land on a grass field located at La Med Bar on front of the Glen Country Club between Clifton Beach and Camps Bay.

Signal Hill

Signal Hill is our alternative to Lions Head and is most popular out of season when our prevailing winds are West to North and offers the unique opportunity of flying over the Sea Point residential area. No walking is required as we launch a short distance from the car park. We have two launch sites on Signal Hill and we decide which to use based on wind strength and direction.

Often flying at this location enable us to land back at the launch area and so flight time is excellent but can also be short depending on the wind strength. We have multiple landing options at this location but the most common is on the Sea Point promenaded in front of the Winchester Mansion Hotel.

Sir Lowry's Pass

Sir Lowry’s Pass is a short drive of about 30 minutes from Cape Town on the N2 towards George, and is situated in the Overberg mountain range and is known as the window to Cape Town. It is flown during our off season when the winds are in a westerly direction. The advantage of flying here is that you step out of the car and onto the launch site, no walking involved. Flights from here are mostly very buoyant and we are able to fly cross country on a good day into the high mountains and back.

You can be assured that a good flight at this location will put a smile on your dial so wide you will relive the moment over and over. Our landing field is at the base of Sir Lowry’s Pass and we are able to drive up and down between the landing and takeoff so we have no problem with recovery.

Hermanus

Hermanus is better known for its whale festival but the paragliding is exceptional. The down side is that it is over 1 hour drive from Cape Town and we therefore need to form a group party of four passengers to make the trip viable for all concerned. We do charge a trip fee per person should you decide to fly in Hermanus and require us to transfer you to & from this site. We fly all year round at Hermanus in the SW to SE wind direction.

The launch site is located on the ridge behind the town of Hermanus and we are able to soar at this location like a bird and top land next to where we took off from. We do have an alternative landing field in the school grounds at Hermanus and make use of this if we cannot stay up or have to land at the bottom.

Porterville

Porterville is the wow! factor of paragliding and is only for those of you that want to experience paragliding’s Cross Country (XC) potential. This site can be flown all year round, even when the wind is howling in Cape Town. We limit the number of passengers we fly with at this site to one per available pilot because going cross country can take a long time and you are sure to spend anything from 30 minutes to 2 hours in the air. Be warned that should you choose to fly cross country at Porterville, people have been known to suffer from motion sickness and because of the climb rates and altitude it will take a while for your pilot come down and land safely.

We launch from a site called Pampoenfontein and land anywhere, so long as it’s a long way from where we started. XC flying is our premium service and is the most expensive flight we offer and you should plan to spend the day out with us. Once again we will also charge extra for any transport when flying outside of Cape Town.
